Historic Yale is Moving ‘Full Steam Ahead’ into the 21st Century with Augmented Reality

PRESS RELEASE

Historic Yale embraces augmented reality to take storytelling into a self-guided experiential tour for visitors.

YALE, BC – Historic Yale has partnered with award-winning augmented reality company, QuestUpon, to create an immersive walking tour for visitors that combines geocaching, trivia, time travel, scavenger hunts and augmented reality throughout this historic boomtown on the Fraser River.

“It’s a compelling experience to see the historic buildings that are no longer standing, in the exact place that they stood during the gold rush days,” said Deb Zervini, General Manager of Yale Historic Site.

The Historic Yale Quest takes the visitor on a self-guided and interactive geocaching tour through the town-site, guiding them to various points of interest. Scavenger hunts, historic trivia, collecting gold rush items in augmented reality, animals, and taking photos are just part of the fun that visitors will encounter.

“It’s very interactive and engaging when you geocache through the town and see history come to life in the real world, using your smartphone as your guide,” said Tammy Meyers, co-founder and COO of QuestUpon. “When you combine history with our technology, it appeals to a wide demographic, which is great for families or couples to experience together. Think ‘Pokemon Go’, for historic storytelling.”

The Historic Yale Quest is easy to use and fun for families and kids of all ages. Get started by downloading the free app, ‘QuestUpon’, on iPhone or Android.

The Yale Historic Site invites visitors and residents to come out on Sunday August 21st, from 1pm – 4pm, to celebrate their history with the Historic Yale Quest. Meet in the museum parking lot, located at 31187 Douglas Street in Yale, BC, do the Quest, and finish off with some light refreshments!

About Historic Yale – The small town of Yale, BC was once the largest city north of San Francisco and west of Chicago. Originally established in 1848 as a Hudson’s Bay Trading Post, Yale grew to an estimated 30,000 people during the 1858 gold rush. In the 1860’s, with the construction of the Cariboo Wagon Road, Yale became the terminus for one of the largest sternwheeler routes in North America and in the 1880’s Yale saw the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Today only a few of the original buildings remain in what was once a booming gold rush town. For more information please visit http://www.historicyale.ca.
